The Fremont and Elkhorn Valley Railway |
| I am proposing a mailing list for members of the Fremont and Elkhorn Valley Railway (FEVR) and others interested in its operations. The FEVR is a non-profit railfan club located in Fremont, Nebraska, USA. The FEVR currently operates a small museum in Fremont with a maintenance and repair shop in the back of the building, owns and operates several pieces of rolling stock, a diesel engine, a small switcher, and enough passenger cars to make a consist of about eight units. A non-working steam locomotive was recently obtained. Hopes are that it can be restored to operational capabilites over the next several years. A stretch of railway right-of-way between Fremont and Hooper, Nebraska, 20-some miles distant, is operated and maintained by club members. Excursions trips on a semi-regular basis during the year, mostly in non-winter months. Annual dues in the club are $25. Membership is open to any railfan, whether professioally trained and experienced in railroading or not. A love of railroads is the only requirement for membership, other than dues payment. There are just over 30 members currently attempting to keep in contact using ad hoc e-mailing kluges. The list would be used to communicate announcements regarding club meetings, discussions of activities, generalized discussion of railroading, etc. No commercialization of the list is planned for or requested.
Railroading is an "ancient" technology comparatively speaking, a highly mechanical one true enough, and certainly not very electronic. But definitely, technology it is nevertheless.
